Big and small news from 2013

Seems like I haven't been here for long, so I thought it might be time to write a short udpate ;)

Big news first:
I have finished my bachelor studies in Information Technologies  at the Alpe-Adria University in early April 2013 with my thesis: Kerf Data Checker - A Tool To Improve The Process Of Kerf Generation & Mask Layout at the Lithography department of Infineon Austria in Villach, where I'm still working part time for 20hrs/week till at least end of September this year!

And secondly:
I have decided to do a bit of stock photography. Starting at the end of last year with Shutterstock, iStock and Fotolia.

I have now nearly 100 images online in sum at all these 3 agencies and my top seller is my NYC Sky View photo, which has been downloaded more than 170 times since I started and it was also my first photo I uploaded on Shutterstock.

Oh, right, I also forgot to mention, that I have been in New York City last year from May 28th - June 4th, after my 25th birthday, which was really a great experience. Won this one-week trip in a contest sponsored by Microsoft, Austrian Airlines and Bene. Thanks a lot for that. You can find a selection of photo also in one of the albums on my Flickr Portfolio.

Future plans are:

• Enlarging my portfolios
• Starting studies again in autumn and
• Finishing my master studies at least in 2016, though I'm not that motivated right now :)

Gonna visit Salzburg for some days in early August, as I won a 3-night stay in a photo contest of the AllYouNeed Hotels.

14. Bauernkirtag in Königsdorf

Am 11. September 2011, ein geschichtsträchtiger Tag, war es wieder soweit und der alljährliche Bauernkirtag in Königsdorf fand statt.

Am Nachmittag/Abend des Vortages wurde schon alles vorbereitet und aufgebaut, Tische, Bänke und Verkaufsstände wurden aufgestellt, für die entsprechende Wasser- und Stromversorgung wurde gesorgt, damit am Sonntag dann nichts mehr schief gehen konnte! 

Am Sonntag Vormittag ging es dann los und alle Betriebe aus der Umgebung verköstigten die Besucher mit ihren Spezialitäten! Es gab u.A. regionale Köstlichkeiten wie z.B. Kürbiscremesuppe, verschiedene Grillwürste, Blutwurstgröstl von Thamhesl's Hofladen, aber auch Schnitzel und Eierschwammerlgulasch. Augeschenkt wurden Weine und Säfte aus der Region, hervorzuheben ist hierbei der "Sturm", auch "Federweißer" genannt!   

Auch für musikalische Unterhaltung war durch den Musikverein Rudersdorf und die Schuhplattler Gruppe Neudau gesorgt. Es gab eine Tombola und auch eine kleine Spielecke sowie eine Hüpfburg für die Kleinsten stand zur Verfügung!

Die Veranstaltung war wie immer ein großer Erfolg und es herrschte ein reges Treiben bis dann auch die Letzten spät in der Nacht wieder Ihren Weg nach Hause fanden. 

Es darf sich schon auf den Bauernkirtag in Königsdorf/Südburgenland/Österreich nächstes Jahr gefreut werden!

Hiking the Mölltaler Glacier

On this late summers day, it wasn't that warm but not too cold so the ideal weather and temperature to go for a hike. We drove about 1,5 hours west from Radenthein (745 m.a.s.l) into the Mölltal and then up to 1900 m.a.s.l. a quite nice gradient from the valley up to a little beautiful mountain hut which was runned by some kind landlord and landlady! There we asked for a short hiking tour for about 2 hours and the landlord also provided us a very experienced and fit guide, named Karla, as you can see in the picture below.

 

She lead us up the hills, took some short baths in the streams sideways, hunted a chamois and a grundhog and played tag with a cow!  

We made some short break halfways at another mountain hut to eat some bread with smoked sausage and cheese before our leader took us to a small lake at above 2200 m.a.s.l. where Karla took a bath!

   



After about 3 hours of hiking we came back to our start position the "Patschgeralm-Hütte" and ordered alocal speciality called "Bretteljause" with self made bread, butter, sausages, ham and quark which you really have to try if you are in Carinthia around, it is available at almost every mountain hut, with some different flavour!


Really a nice activity to get the sunday around!

Sauzipf Rocks 11

After 2 years of abstinence, the last Sauzipf Rocks was in 2009, this unique festival took place again in Austria/Carinthia/Döbriach near Millstätter See. For information about the bands which played there and some historical facts, visit the homepage and if you want to get some updates via mail order the newsletter! Everyone couldn't wait to get there! This year, there was a ticket limitation of 1500 2-day-tickets for the first time! The tickets were already sold out some weeks before the festival and a lot of people tried to get some tickets from others who weren't able to come, so the inquiry to take part was quite high! Even a contest was held in the last days before the festival to give away the last tickets to some people.

 On the second festival day on midday it started with the well known "Schweinsaugenweitspucken" contest, which can be translated as "Pig-Eye-Long-Spitting" and more people than ever participated in it. The winner spitted the pig eye over more than 11 metres and some people who hadn't poured enough alcohol down their throat swallowed the eyes to get a bottle of vodka as a present!

To have some more entertainment in the afternoon before the bands started their shows the local Highlander team Mc Stingler organized 3 competitions of the Highland Games which were, "Bierle zupfen", "Bam sagln" and "Maß heben", in english it's called "beer drinking", "wood sawing" and "stein lifting". The participants took part in it in teams of two. Some impressions below!

And for all of you who have the possibility to come and attend Sauzipf Rocks for one time you want to get there each single year of your life, cause you will hardly find a festival with such a extravagant character, non-mainstream music, musicians and people, like this one. And i really have to suggest you to drink there one or even more "Goaß" and also the bartenders are quite handsome there ;)

So I've shown you some pictures and gave you some information about this festival and now it's your choice to come there the next years, but I know you miss something deep inside your heart and it for sure is Sauzipf Rocks, and you will never ever get that hole filled until you've been there ;)

Cologne/Rhine

Last week photokina organized a contest via their facebook page and I was one of the lucky winners of a Scott Kelby Light It - Shoot It - Retouch It - Live workshop in Cologne!

After some hard hours of planning how to get from Klagenfurt to Cologne, which was finally by putting myself in train for half a day and making stops in Salzburg and Munich, I reached Cologne at midnight August 10th. As I had plenty of time during the night and anyway didn't know where to sleep till morning, I decided to take a nightwalk and make myself a bit familiar with this city! The beautiful picture below is where this long night took me, it was taken from the Hohenzollern bridge with view direction to Zoobridge.

After this nightwalk I've seen a youth hostel nearby on the map, went there and asked to get a roof over my head for some hours, cause it was quite fresh, though it was summer! 

On the way to the workshop next day I met some people who also didn't get the right way to the Photokina building, but finally we made it, and the day went pretty intresting, was by the way the first time for me to take part in such a seminar. Scott Kelby was quite a funny guy which really understood his work and how to deal with the audience! 

Was really woth it but maybe little bit to short. Train went back 03.20 a.m. in the morning and I arrived in Klagenfurt at 01.17 p.m.
